How to Care for Lorry Stickers (5 Practical Tips for Maximum Lifespan)

Lorry being washed correctly — how to maintain stickers for longer life

Good vinyl, sharp design — but the wrong care routine can wear it down in 18 months. Here are 5 practical tips professional installers follow on their own vehicles.

1. Wait 7 days before the first wash

Sticker adhesive needs time to fully cure to the lorry surface. Washing too early can lift vinyl edges, especially around curves. After the cure period, the sticker handles almost any wash type.

2. Hand wash or low-pressure spray

High-pressure wash from under 30cm can force water under the vinyl edge. Recommended: hand wash with microfiber + mild soap, or jet spray from 50cm+ away. Avoid steam wash for vehicle wraps.

3. Skip solvent-based wax

Some car waxes (especially heat-cure or strong-solvent formulas) can thin out the vinyl's UV-protect layer. Stick to a wash-and-dry routine. If you want a protective coat, vinyl-safe sealants exist — but always test a sample first.

4. Park under canopy when possible

UV is vinyl enemy #1. Every hour of direct sun vs shade = significant fade-rate difference. For operators who park overnight at home/yard, a single canopy can add 1-2 years to vinyl lifespan.

5. Inspect every 18 months

Walk around the lorry: are panel edges curling? Has top-side colour faded? Any unsettled bubbles? Catch issues early — patching one panel is far cheaper than a full rewrap.

Simple tips, but they compound — operators who follow them consistently get an extra 1-2 years from their stickers. Got a specific concern about your lorry? WhatsApp us a photo of the current condition and we'll advise at no charge.
